Itinerary

Your guide and driver for the day will meet and greet you at 8 a.m., after breakfast, before heading to explore the Mother Temple of Angkor Wat.

The seventh well-known temple is claimed to be the world’s largest religious edifice. This temple represents the pinnacle of symbolism and symmetry, and it is a source of tremendous pride for all Khmers. We begin by unraveling the riddles of the bas-reliefs illustrating Hindu mythology and the splendor of the Khmer Empire.

Refueled and re-energized, the journey proceeds to the adjoining walled city of Angkor Thom, with its intriguing Bayon temple. The enigmatic Bayon temple at its core, with its towers studded by almost 200 huge stone faces, exudes an uncanny atmosphere.

Your guide will explain the 12th-century temple’s symbolic sculptures and construction.

We’ll then explore the causeways of the Terrace of the Elephants and Terrace of the Leper King, taking in the size of what must have been spectacular processions.

Our tour of Angkor Thom also includes a visit to the Baphuon temple, which is located immediately north of Bayon.

We’ll see one of Angkor’s tallest temples, now collapsed, and learn about previous repair efforts.

Before heading to Ta Prohm temple, stop for lunch and a rest. As you approach its bounds, towering root-bound passageways welcome you, conveying the feeling of entering an old forest sanctuary. Unlike other repaired temples, Ta Prohm has been left substantially unchanged since its discovery in the nineteenth century, suffocating in the tight embrace of vibrant green foliage.

Mighty tree roots now swallow entire courtyards and envelop mammoth stones, demonstrating nature’s formidable ability to recover what was previously constructed.

Your guide will tell you about the site’s history and the adventures of early Western explorers while taking you on a sensory trip through this stunning blend of building and environment.

After completing your guided explorations in the late afternoon, you will be dropped off at your hotel about 15:30-16:30
